Summary/Abstract: On Yiddish theater’s eightieth anniversary, Teatrul Evreiesc de Stat (The Jewish State Theater/ TES) in Bucharest appointed an editorial board to prepare a Festschrift to mark this event. In this article, I analyze how this Festschrift paid tribute to Yiddish theater considering the circumstances under which culture was created in the People’s Republic of Romania in the 1950s.
