Summary/Abstract: The research problem of this paper follows the questions, weather the current level of social capital supports or limits sustainable development in the border region of Western Poland, and which of its resources are crucial in implementing sustainable development in municipalities. The main objective of the research was to examine the level and quality of social capital in the municipality of Słubice, in the context of the regional strategy for sustainable development. The authors analyzed scientific literature and other secondary sources and applied the methods of description, survey, visualization and statistics. The paper is both theoretical and empirical in nature. It consists of an introduction, three analytic parts and a summary. We assumed that the most important organizations affecting socialcapital in the municipality are the local government, secondary schools and businesses. Therefore, a targeted direct survey was carried out in 2019 among representatives of these organizations. The results of the survey confirm the achievement of the objectives and the positive verification of the hypothesis. The respondents' assessments indicated that the level of social capital in the municipality of Słubice is good but there are key reserves for its growth. We were able to identify a structural gap in the resources of social capital in the region, indicating the need to improve its quality in order to foster an effective implementation of the regional sustainable development strategy. The summary of the work offers theoretical conclusions and practical recommendations.
