Summary/Abstract: This article looks at the political changes and the digitization of sound carriers, and asks about the practices of Polish phono-enthusiasts in the process of technological transformations that changed the culture of production, distribution and listening to music for years to come. The context for these considerations are the networks for exchanging recorded music operating in the Polish People’s Republic, the practice of recording radio broadcasts and the pedagogical phonographic project postulated by Kaziemierz Dobrzyński, as well as the undertakings of the Polish radio technic industry related to the production of “discophones” licensed by Philips. The methodological framework of the text consists of the concepts by Michael C. Heller concerning musical communities, and Clinton Heylin explaining the “pirate” circulation of music albums.
