Summary/Abstract: This article discusses Ilustrowany słownik terminów literackich (“An Illustrated Dictionary of Literary Terms”), mainly in reference to a critical review by Michał Głowiński in “Pamiętnik Literacki”. The author shows that the presented volume focuses on etymology and the anecdotal layer because the editors intended to refresh and “bring back to life” abstract concepts “appropriated” by specialists. She argues that the individual style of the authors of the articles and the non-systemic selection of entries do not imply dilettantism, and the book, on the whole, is a well-thought-out counter-proposal to the scholarly, structuralist model of a dictionary of terms. Without underestimating the flaws of the publication, the author analyzes its potential and places it in the context of the concepts by such authors as Barthes and Derrida.
