Summary/Abstract: In Alexander Pushkin’s poem The Copper Rider a balance has been received between the Enlightenment and the Romantic interpretation of the phenomenon of Pe­tersburg which then is to be shaken. Two rival myths of Petersburg are created — the Slavophillic and the Occidental one.
