Summary/Abstract: Futabatei Shimei wrote a translation of a fragment from Oblomov’s Dream into Japanese, which was the first appearance of I.A. Goncharov in that language. In the arrangement and opposition of characters Futabatei’s Ukigumo (Drifting Clouds, 1887-1889) and The Ravine are basically similar.
