OBSERVATIONS ON THE ARGOT OF RUSSIAN PEDLARS AND WANDERING ARTISANS

Summary/Abstract: The author discusses the features and functions of the language of Russian pedlars and wandering artisans, which is dying out now. Many words of this language entered the slang of different social groups, e.g. thieves’ cant, and thanks to it it has now become part of the Russian common language.
