Summary/Abstract: This paper examines three different approaches to the reflection of the Old Testament plots in Russian music of 1860-70s from the viewpoint of the national art conception. In their attempt to write secular music based on religious themes, A. Rubinstein and A. Serov revealed a new trend in opera dramaturgy, while M. Musorgsky invented a new type of choral music - choral pictures. These works enriched the means of musical expression and discovered the new ways to create the eastern images in Russian music.
