Summary/Abstract: The article explores such issues of English medical terminology polysemy, synonymy, abbreviations, eponyms, neologisms and methods of their lexicographic registration in terminology dictionaries. Under the study English medical terminography and medical dictionary Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary (2012).Such issues were not yet the subject of lexicographic study, that determines the relevance of the chosen topic. To achieve the goal, a complex methodology was applied: analytical analysis of theoretical literature published within English medical terminology and scientific and practical terminography; lexicographic analysis for studying mega-, macro- and microstructures of the dictionary; method of critical analysis for studying the features of the dictionary compilation; method of juxtaposition for summing up the obtained findings. The scientific novelty of the study is that the article first explores the problems of terminographic registration of an English medical term with their juxtaposition to methods and approaches used for codifying a medical concept in a monolingual special dictionary. Conclusions. It has been revealed that main issues and features of English medical terms such as polysemy, synonymy, abbreviations, eponyms are fully represented in Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary, as a monolingual special dictionary. In its turn, the problem of neologisms needs further consideration. Compilers of the dictionary adhere to the principles of unification and standardization required for such type of dictionaries. The main problems of medical terminography are solved by the combination of linguistic and encyclopaedic parameters in dictionary entries. The issues of synonymy and polysemy of medical term are solved by the use of cross references and additional subentries. Etymological information helps to understand the meaning and use of eponyms. Various applications eliminate the difficulty of understanding special abbreviations and symbols. The systematic approach to medical term selection and its representation, the combination of linguistic and encyclopaedic methods allow to achieve the most detailed codification of information about a particular medical concept.
