Summary/Abstract: The notion of conceptual metaphor is fundamental to this discussion which unveils the metaphorical nature of concepts usually thought of as non-metaphorical (’world’, ’nature’), as well as that of language in the widest range of its possible uses – including the so-called literal language. The insights which emerge serve as a base to the discussion of linguistic and the literary meaning. The literary language is weighed against everyday language from the metaphorical and the cognitive perspective. The argument is drawn from a cognitive analysis of Eugène Ionesco’s The Chairs.
