Summary/Abstract: The paper is an attempt to analyse an important problem in glottodidactics — the role of stereotype in foreign language teaching. The author draws the attention of the reader to the impact of stereotypes on motivation in the process of parallel teaching of Russian and a West-European language, and also underlines the importance of mutual correlation in presenting the reality in two different language areas.
