Summary/Abstract: Živo Bolica Kokoljić is one of the most important representatives of baroque poetry of the Boka Kotorska Bay in the 17th century, and his extensive and diverse opus has been available to the public for the last few decades. Although pri- marily known for his occasional poetry, some of Bolica’s reflexive poems, as well as the reflexive verses in his epistles, are mentioned in passing in the analyses dedicated to this Boka poet, almost always with the remark that these are the verses that prove the existence of an autonomous poetic quality in Bolica’s poetry. The renunciation of the quality and aesthetic value of the poetry of Živo Bolica Kokoljić is common in studies on this poet. This paper attempts to explore whether there are grounds for revalorization and re-actualization of Bolica’s work, mostly by analyzing the reflexive verses of his poems sung in the folk, Illyrian language. The goal is to show in which moments Živo Bolica Kokoljić remains only a skillful baroque poet, and in which he expresses an authentic poetic feeling that can be valuable for today’s reader. The sincerity of the poet, as well as the tendency to appear in certain verses as particularly intimate, are no longer the only criteria of quality when it comes to Bolica’s poetry, and the comparative method aims to further illuminate the place ofŽivo Bolica Kokoljić in the context of our baroque literature.
