Summary/Abstract: Foreign direct investment plays a positive role in the development of a country's economy by introducing foreign capital and modern technologies, in restructuring the economy and accelerating the pace of privatization, reducing the unemployment and raising the income per person, improving the balance of payments, increasing the level of GDP, the exports, the competitive ability of local products on international markets. Albania has a high potential to attract FDI in various sectors such as industrial processing, agribusiness, tourism, services, agriculture etc. But absorption of FDI in Albania is much lower than its real potential. After 2000, Albania has made visible progress to increase the flow of foreign direct investment not only just from state privatization companies, but also in the involvement of foreign private sector to obtain the concession strategic sectors.
