Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the metaleptic and metafictional elements present in Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (1999–2006) as adapted for the TV series based on the novels (2017–2019). The aim is to demonstrate how, as a result of the creators’ views on the particularities of the film medium, these elements are reduced, meanings are made more explicit and less ambiguous, and the plot is subjected to traditional narrative conventions.
