Experience in the restoration of the murals of the interiors of the Trinity Gate Church in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra during the period from 1979 to 1991

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to carry out a comprehensive analysis of scientific approaches and technologies during the cycle of restoration works on the murals of the Trinity Gate Church in the period from 1979 to 1991. Methodology. Specific features of this topic require the use of a new range of research methods based on a comprehensive system-activity approach and analysis of modern technical and technological methods of researching the murals of the church. Scientific novelty. Concretization of previous achievements and losses in the restoration sphere, focusing on the consideration of the tried and tested restoration techniques and the effects of their use on the monument, introduction into scientific circulation of information about the composition of murals materials, and its specifics. Conclusions. The restoration process has enriched the history of the monument with valuable evidence of past restoration interventions, filling in the gaps in existing archival sources. During the restoration process, the restorers discovered the presence of earlier paintings of the 17th and 18th centuries.
