Summary/Abstract: Following the collapse of USSR in the 1990’s, in the eye of the West “the communist/red enemy” was replaced by “Islamist/green enemy”. Through the historical process Islam has been one of the constituent element of European identity and during the Bosnian War between 1992-1995 Islam was perceived as the ‘enemy’ and ‘threat’ again. In this perspective the Bosnian muslims with the labels of ‘the other’ and ‘enemy’ -despite the inhuman treatments, massacres and war crimes they faced- many political actors and media through their Islamophobic blindness almost approved these calamities. In this paper, Alija Izzetbegovic’s virtous stance based on his principle “to be a human and to stay human” is to be pictured as an good example of the ideal that Europe seeks “coexistence of differences”.
