Summary/Abstract: Coming back in 1968 to Budapest after eight months spent between Piaroas he found himself in an unknown culture. Holistic study of cultural areas proposed by Franz Boas results in cultural relativism, and does not lead to quick and easy generalizations. The author needed a ten years study of Piaroas and a six years study of Guaranis to write his first comparative work. Cultural relativism is, however, the only way to avoid ethnocentrism and rassism.
