Summary/Abstract: The act of solemn canonization of some saints derives from the principle of church autocephaly, being a right of every autocephalous Church. The canonization of the Romanian saints thus becomes a landmark event in the history of the Romanian Orthodox Church, one of the characteristics of the new period in our religious life. Through the canonization of the Romanian national saints and the generalization of the worship of others, the Romanian Orthodox Church proves to be a constitutive part of the Ecumenical Orthodoxy. The saints canonized by the local Holy Synod can also be honoured by the other sister Orthodox Churches.
