Summary/Abstract: Interest level in environment increased along with the environmental problems. Since environment is an interdisciplinary field, almost all of the disciplines engage in environment, make research about it and publish their results. Periodicals in Turkey, which have been published only about environment, have appeared after the second half of the 20th century and they have seriously advanced in the course of time. Publications like articles concerning environment in Turkey appeared first in the magazines of different field but since 1960s purely environment-oriented periodicals have begun to be drafted and published. Magazines, newspapers and bulletins which exclusively comprise articles about environment were started to be published along with the emergence of the environment as a field of specialization and problems. In this paper, an effort has been made to set forth the development of environmental periodicals. To attain this aim, 94 environmental periodicals being published in Turkey were identified. As a result of the research, it was reported that the number of the magazines, newspapers and bulletins in various characteristics dealing with the environmental issues increased gradually from 1960s to date but it was also found that the publishing of many of them was stopped. Furthermore, it became clear that voluntary environmental organizations were more effective in publishing of the environmental periodicals. In this respect, this article is important since it is a paper which displays the development of the publishing of environmental periodicals in Turkey in terms of periods.
