Summary/Abstract: The author of the article puts forward a thesis that Leo Tolstoy’s influence on many Soviet writers is much more deeper than one might think from the hitherto ascertainments. The proof of this is among other things Alexander Grin’s attitude to the great Russian artist and moralist. The permanent fascination of Grin with L. Tolstoy’s personality and work was transformed, especially after the October Revolution, in an apology of his moral and ethical attitude of a timeless significance, although it was already without religious mysticism and abstract hope for the return to nature. First of all, A. Grin’s literary works are the evidence of strong inspirations of Tolstoy, especially with respect to moralizing and didacticism, the definite role of the writer in the society.
