Summary/Abstract: The present article examines the signals of activity on the part of the story-teller A form of tale is used by Leskov as a principle of the story which helps to perceive the world from the point of view of the teller-gunsmith. The analysis of the text proves the existence of the author’s point of view within the story. zt can be observed on the level of the language stylistic design (literary language of chapters 6, 7, 20) as well on the higher levels of the artistic organization of the work (irony, ambivalence of the essence of some episodes, semantically significant patterning of space).
