Summary/Abstract: The author of the present paper treats of the problems of the delimitation of adjectival antonyms and their specific features in relation to degrees of comparison. He draws on two basic principles: a) the principle of the determination of opposite meanings; b) the principle of the adequate choice of lexemes in the formation of antonymie couples. When determining the opposite meanings the author utilizes contrary and contradictory procedures, and at some time he points to the potential possibility of „minus” and “plus” point (non-pretty: pretty: ugly; pretty: ugly: non-pretty). The choice of lexemes is conditioned by the degree of antonymity on the basis of which three types of antonyms are delimited: 1. full, 2. partial, 3. contextual. All the delimited types of antonyms can form degrees of comparison (with exception of hyperbolizing antonyms and negative adjectives) and express spatial, temporal, processual and emotial relations
