Specifics of kinship foster care in the context of transgenerational psychological strain in the family

Summary/Abstract: The study deals with specific issues of kinship foster care. Through this work, we want to point out the supporting and limiting factors of foster care in the context of previous and current psychological traumas, which stretch across generations of foster families in a relationship to the adopted child and are a significant source of ongoing psychological strain on all involved persons. The study includes the results of a qualitative research survey using the technique of in-depth interviews with fifteen foster relatives and ten key social workers of foster families. The obtained data were analyzed using selected methods of grounded theory. The results of the research show both the form and consequences of traumatic and stressful events in specific individuals, with an emphasis on foster care parents and also the way in which these specific experiences are reflected in the current lives of foster participants/parents and specifically in selected areas of care for children at risk.
