Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on the issue of divorce and describes the impact of divorce on individual family members and the status of the child. The paper aims to not only highlight the competences of a social pedagogue in Slovakia working with a family in the divorce process through the analysis of legislative options, but also to describe selected methods and techniques that can be used in working with a family in school and social areas. Based on the aforementioned analysis, it can be stated that in working with a family in the divorce process, a social pedagogue can fulfil the role of not only a school social pedagogue but also a mediator or worker in the Department of Social Protection of children and social curatorship. At the same time, he has a wide range of professional methods and techniques at his disposal, for working not only with the child but also with the parents, and some aforementioned methods overlap with the methods of social work. This attests to the interconnection of these two scientific disciplines and the necessity to explore the cooperation between the social pedagogue and the social worker in working with a family in the divorce process.
