Summary/Abstract: The name of Vasil Tkachuk, an Ukrainian short story writer of the first half of the 20th century, was unjustly forgotten during the Soviet period. Therefore, along with other scholars, we attempt to bring him back to the context of our culture. His legacy for his completely short life (28 years) comprises two books of short stories and random publications, mainly in journals and periodicals. However, literary critics noticed them on that time. This paper is an attempt to analyze Vasil Tkachuk’s short stories from his book „Blue Tassels” in order to determine how the author depicts the archetypal image of the earth as the eternally vital value for Hutsuls and for Ukrainian people generally.
