The restoration of furniture items from the collection of the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History

Summary/Abstract: In this paper I shall consider in general the restoration of old furniture and, particularly, a range of furniture items made of different kinds of wood. The furniture was bought from different regions of the Republic of Moldova. These items had an advanced state of degradation, serious wear, and were actively attacked by xylophagous insects; flight holes were spread on extensive surfaces. In each item missed some building and decorative elements. They were later completed and consolidated within the ensemble of each item. The methods of restoration based on a range of actions aiming to consolidate, strengthen and completely stabilize the furniture. The protection layer and the conservation were applied by means of natural products (bee-wax, colophony), as well as using alkyd synthetical resins.
