Summary/Abstract: This article studies the the connection between gastronomy and books in Russian contemporary novels, such as The Women of Lazarus by Marina Stepnova, and Manaraga by Vladimir Sorokin. Marina Stepnova creates a character from the cookbook The Gift to Young Housewives by Elena Molokhovets. In the novel the cookbook becomes a symbol of family love, as well as recollection of love. Moreover, it emerges as an attribute character that creates a motherly world of a heaven that was lost and then recovered, serving as the linking element for the love of a genius in physics. The object which remained after the death of his beloved woman is used by his niece, Lidochika the ballerina to creat her virtual dream. The syncretism and meta-symbolism in the novel "Manaraga" by Vladimir Sorokin leads to the eccentric human taste for books and gastronomy, where books of antiquity are not sought for the purpose of being put in the library.
