Summary/Abstract: It is now widely asserted that the Russian "transition" has been a failure. The Russian economy is perceived by many to be in a state of near, if not full, collapse, with little hope of recovery in the near future. Yet the transition policies that have led to this apparently disastrous situation are still credited with having made Russia a market economy, albeit it a highly flawed and distorted one. Thus, many place blame for the current situation on an overly hasty marketization of a society and an economy ill-prepared for modern markets. [...]
