The role of Šafárik´s texts in education at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice at present

Summary/Abstract: The paper builds on the author's experience with working with Šafárik's scientific texts intended for direct interpretation for students of Slavic studies and other subjects with regard to the goal that the teacher wants to achieve in teaching Slovak studies and its specific disciplines in the context of current university studies. It relates the offers in connection with the possibilities of current study programs and subjects in connection with accessible book as well as digitized literature. The core of the paper is a proposal for a special subject dedicated to the personality of P. J. Šafárik, which would be offered to all UPJŠ students. The course primarily focuses on the personality and life of the scientist (also using the interpretation of his poetry), his Slavic writings focused on history, linguistics, literature and ethnology. In conclusion, the author recalls the constant topicality of his work, which she underlines not only with her latest dialectological research in eastern Slovakia, which not only refutes Šafárik's views on the presence of Slavs in Central Europe before the migration of nations, but directly confirms them.
