Summary/Abstract: The presented article explores the literary works of a Polish writer Andrzej Stasiuk. In his numerous works, the author studies different maps of Central Europe, the old as well as the new ones, in search for better understanding of certain lands, but also “imagined communities” that create and inhabit them. Maps show the complicated history of the region, which resulted in constant modifications of the national borders on the one hand, and a history of industrialization and development that permanently changed its topography on the other. This way, both Poland and Romania share a similar experience that translates into specific cultural and historical context. With tools taken from geopoetics, Stasiuk creates imaginary geography of Europe, where borders and maps mark neighbourhoods rather than national divisions.
