Summary/Abstract: In the last decade, many scholars have remarked on a re-emergence of populism within European politics. In Western Europe, the term is generally used to refer to modern or moderate types of so-called extreme right or radical-right parties. In Eastern Europe, however, populism is considered a more diffuse phenomenon, spreading throughout the ideological spectrum. Like nationalism, populism has become a catchword for both the media and the scholarly community that deal, often only in passing, with the postcommunist East. [...]
