Chemical nomenclature in Józef Rostafiński’s "Symbola ad historiam naturalem medii aevi"

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is analysis the chemical naming present in the Symbola ad historiam naturalem medii aevi written by Józef Rostafiński, in which glosses from medieval texts in the field of natural sciences were collected. 80 lexemes belonging to chemical vocabulary were extracted from the text. These words are characterized by a rich synonymy, which is characteristic of the specialist lexis of the Old Polish period. The article discusses three synonymous series relating to: lead carbonate, iron oxide and sulfate iron.
