Summary/Abstract: The purpose of our study is to compare two corpora consisting of literary text analysis written by BA students from in the 3rd year. These two corpora have been created based on a selection of the aforementioned texts that were written in two different academic contexts. The first corpus (LIRA_1) consists of 62 texts written in class as part of examination, while the second set of 65 texts (LIRA_2) includes texts that were written when the transition to the online classes occurred. As far as the second set is concerned, the works produced by students relatively differ from those from the first set since the students were asked to base their analysis on excerpts of literary criticism gathered in a small corpus. Our paper depicts how corpus tools can point out a general overview of students’ writing and decide to what extent the quantitative perspective corresponds to the qualitative one. We are interested in the content of these analyses, examining the ways in which students managed to frame the given literary texts within the correct cultural paradigm and reached the key points in their essays. Even though this academic genre (i.e. literary text analysis) is still not represented well enough within the Romanian HE system, it is part of the curriculum for secondary education (high school) and higher education (university). Regarding this last level of education, namely higher education, literary text analysis practice also intends to mainly motivate and improve students’ skills to grapple with standardized tests that target entrance in the pre-university teaching system. Eventually, based on the results of the corpus analyses and on the overall perspective, we come up with several pedagogical recommendations, since university teachers face several challenges in the process of improving students’ writing skills.
