Summary/Abstract: This article proposes a comparative study of the treatment of characters in the vanguardist experimental literary art, by examining the relationships between the main characters in Second Thoughts (1957) by Michel Butor and Hopscotch (1963) by Julio Cortázar, without forgetting the relationship of these characters with the narrative sets of both novels and with the new literary trend of those years, the Nouveau Roman (New Novel). To summarize, the study aims to provide a view of the development of the narrative in the nineteen fifties and early sixties through the detection of its experimental manifestations in each of the main characters of the aforementioned novels.
