Future Value of Modals in Haitian Creole

Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the question of modals in Haitian Creole and their future value. It is shown that beyond their deontic, epistemic and ‘abilitative’ values generally mentioned in the literature, these modals can also have future meaning effects which come from some of their uses and their interaction with stative and event predicates.
