Summary/Abstract: The present paper explores electoral support for two main Romanian political parties, namely the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the National Liberal Party (PNL). Their performances are accounted for at two contextual scales: historical regions (Old Kingdom and Transylvania) and residential milieux (urban, rural, urban subcategories). The longitudinal data analysis is performed for electoral results at 1992-2016 legislative elections. Significant patterns are revealed for both parties. For the entire period, PSD is stronger in the historical region of Old Kingdom, in rural areas and also in less urbanized small settlements. Patterns for PNL are largely unstable at the regional level but still display temporal coherence in residential milieux. Up until the last decade, PNL was stronger in urban spaces, but afterwards it shifted towards to rural areas. The results contribute to a better understanding of Romanian electoral behaviors and the position of the two parties within the political system.
