Summary/Abstract: The article refers to to the contradictions in the Memorandum addressed to the headquarters of the European Union in Brussels (September 17, 2020) by the Bulgarian Parliament, which disputes the right of the Macedonian people to use the Macedonian literary language, which is an essential basis for the attribution of the national identity. In this regard, we are reminded of cosmopolitanism proclaimed in the action and role of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius in establishing the Old Slavic language as equal and standardized in Europe in the IX century. This benefit is equally important for all Slavic peoples, including the Macedonian and the Bulgarian. The appearance of this Memorandum, which denies the Macedonian literary language and at the same time the uniqueness of the Macedonian national identity, is the reason for numerous reactions in the Macedonian and Bulgarian environment. As a counterpoint to the content of the Memorandum we place the cosmopolitanism of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, whose noble mission in modern Europe unites many nations through the attributes of Slavic literacy and culture. Cosmopolitanism and visionary are essential commitments of Cyril and Methodius embedded in the cultural history of Europe. In the paper we want to underline their contribution to the Macedonian people in the process of establishing a separate national identity, national culture and art created on the soil of Macedonia through a long historical process. The oldest and probably the first centre where the Cyril and Methodius cult was confirmed is the city of Ohrid, where their direct pupils St Clement and St Наум њоркед. Today it is quite certain that Ohrid was the oldest center of the Cyril and Methodius cult in the literature and in the fine arts of the Balkan countries and that it was only later that their interest in other cultural centres increased, often marked by doubts about the characteristics of their physiognomy, but always in search of new structures from the point of view of composition and themes, which show respect and interest for Slavic culture and literature founders.
