Summary/Abstract: The current paper centers upon the initiatives that have supported the recent state acquisition of the house in which the Argentine writer Juan José Saer (1937-2005) spent his childhood years, and its establishment as a cultural center, in order to reveal some of the discursive characteristics of the legitimation of the memorial houses. Based on the specific case of Casa Saer, located in Serodino, Argentina, and opened to the public in 2019, the current paper pinpoints the values that articulate the legitimation of the memorial house, as well as the connectedness between the memorial houses and the building, and cultivation of a collective identity. At the same time, given the fact that the Saer family was one of migrants, the article aims to incentivize reflection on the constant reconfiguration of the discourse about cultural otherness, when occasioned by the life of personalities who cultivated the arts, as activities that celebrate the richness of cultural encounters and invalidate the cultural stereotypes.
