Summary/Abstract: Nowadays, the personal data protection issue is becoming more and more prominent, both in the state institutions and in the private sector. The economic agents and public institutions are required to follow clear rules in what concerns the personal data processing both in terms of the employees and in terms of the individual requesting access to certain goods or services. However, how do we appreciate the concept of personal data protection when balanced with the protection of life, personal property or privacy? This question is becoming more and more present and the answer is absolutely required when we discuss about the video surveillance of living spaces, courtyards and common use space or private parking. Another sensitive aspect interferes when video surveillance involves an area of public space.
