Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the controversies in literary periodicals between Milan Ćurčin, Assistant Professor of German Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade and other German language translators (Rista Odavić, Jovan Kangrga, Petar Taletov, David Pijade...). Ćurčin criticized their work as laic and ignorant, and they portrayed him as a quasi-expert and quasi-intellectual, challenging the quality of his translation of Friedrich Nietzsche’s work Thus Spoke Zarathustra. In each other’s accusations, the weaknesses of German studies in Serbia were revealed, as well as those of Milan Ćurčin.
