Summary/Abstract: Romania registers the largest deficit in VAT collection in the European Union (over a third of VAT is not found in the state treasury), so real‑time reporting is becoming more urgent than ever. VAT should be easy to collect as any tax measure you apply has an immediate, directly visible effect on the state budget. All the more as these days every government, and more particularly the Romanian Government, is talking about the acute need for money to support businesses, for facilities and programs, it is important to discuss a strategy for market discipline and strengthening VAT collection.
