Summary/Abstract: The sermon was published in the second volume of the collected works of Kliment Ohridski based on his transcript in Jagichev Chrysostom from the end of the XIII century, and with the variations from six Russian transcripts from the XIV-XVIII centuries. The discrepancies reveal that it was held by Patriarch John Exarch on the Feast of the Worship of the Cross of Christ. It was first celebrated on July 31, 914, when the capital city acquired its Golgotha and was honorably named Preslav ("accepting the glory of Jerusalem"). On this occasion, the Patriarch of Constantinople Nikolai Mystic writes his sixth letter to King Simeon in August 914. In September 914 the Bulgarian ruler repeats his march from August 913. The events in Preslav, which ended with the two campaigns against Constantinople, were motivated by yet another appearance of the Halley Comet on July 18, 912, which heralded the new order on Earth according to which Preslav had taken the place of Constantinople in the eastern half of the Christian world and King Simeon was already "first before the other, Christian king and bishop" in the words of John Exarch in the Sermon of Worship of the Cross of Christ.
