Summary/Abstract: The normalization of relations bewteen the United Arab Emirates (UAE)and Israel has prompted a debate in the Iranian academic field regarding the impact of this development on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s regional posture. The debate has been monopolized by two antagonistic narratives. One one side, some scholars argue that Iran is loosing ground in the regional competition for power. The other side rejects the assumption that the regional balance of power will change at the expense of Iran, despite the fact that Israel’s presence in the Persian Gulf region rises some security predicaments for Iran. This academic paper review and scrutinize the hypotheses and arguments of these two narratives.
