Summary/Abstract: Bruno Schulz's life (1892-1942) begins and ends in Drohobycz, a provincial Polish town that he memorialized in his writing and that, as a consequence of its fame, has become more legendary to his readers than real. For fifty years this sleepy town provided enough inspiration for Schulz's creations, and although he studied in Lwow and Vienna, and frequently traveled to Warsaw, and once to Paris, the writer remained faithful to his roots-much as Joyce remained faithful to Dublin and Faulkner to Oxford, Mississippi.
