Summary/Abstract: Based on the novel The Successor of Ismaïl Kadaré, our study aims at clarifying the notions of narrative and history that appear essential to the writing process of this Albanian writer. Starting off from a real fact, the death of the Successor of the Guide of the Nation, on the night of December 13th, 1981, the writer tries with this fictional and original work to bring a certain truth to this state affair whose secret remains unresolved despite the opening of the archives of the Albanian State. In fact, the literary goal is to bring certain elements in order to enlighten this dark page in the History of this country. The representation of this tragic event allows the writer to throw an acerbic look on the maneuvers of a tyrannical system that heavily weighed, for forty years, in the existence of all the people that suffered from totalitarian Communist politics. For Ismaïl Kadaré, his interest in this dramatic situation and writing is his way of showing his opposition, of protesting, as a writer, for his right to the word and to the freedom of action.
