Summary/Abstract: The tribune of the Câmpiei Legion, Vasile Turcu was born in 1780 according to some historical sources or in 1788 as mentioned by other historical sources in the village Săcalul de Câmpie. Little is known about his schooling, it is certain that the priest arrived in Cătina. He was actively involved in the Revolution of 1848-1849 in Transylvania and after the assemblies of September 1848 in Blaj he was appointed tribune in the Câmpiei Legion led by the prefect Alexandru Bătrâneanu and the vice-prefect Vasile Simionaş. He was arrested at the end of October 1848, and transported to Cluj, where he was sentenced by the Court of Immediate Judgement to death by hanging. He was executed on November 3, 1848 by the executioner Bako.
