Summary/Abstract: In the past few decades, a considerable attention was given to the parallel robots and most of the scientific papers refer in the introduction that they were initially proposed to deal with the drawbacks of serial ones. These types of robots are stiffer, faster and more accurate and they have numerous applications in many fields. The first hexapod was built in 1950 by E. Gough that many, paradoxically, refer to as the Stewart platform. Klaus Cappel also designed independently the same hexapod, licensed and built most motion simulators prior to early 1980, but no one even knew about him. This paper presents a short description of the importance of parallel robots in the industry field and the history of their development which illustrates the huge gap that exists between industry and academia and gives a few examples of some type of parallel robots that revolutionized industry.
