Summary/Abstract: One of the main foundations of achieving the competitiveness is the possession of educated and qualified labour force. It is important to emphasize that formal educated population isn't a prerequisite for building the competitiveness and that it is necessary to consider the phrase "quality over quantity". During tertiary education, there are different factors that have an impact on the success of students. These factors often can be a main barrier of access to higher education. The surveyed population are students of public and private universities in B&H. The authors also paid attention to the structure of student costs, such as those students who are living with a family, in students home or staying in rented apartments during their studies. Findings of the regression analysis points to an important argument that the student's academic success decreases with growth of income. In support of this conclusion is the fact that higher-income students are less motivated to achieve more significant academic achievements. The aims of the research is to demonstrate how financial dimensions affect academic prosperity, how students perceive the costs of tuition and how many employers have understanding for students seeking work engagement as an additional source of income.
