Summary/Abstract: The paper is conceived as a presentation of several important aspects regarding the indirect object in English and Romanian. In English, the indirect object is a secondary part of the sentence which completes the meaning of the verb. It is used in the dative case and can be of two types: long / prepositional indirect object and short / non-prepositional indirect object. In Romanian, the indirect object appears as a very large syntactic class. It can be realized by nouns, pronouns or numerals, in many of the cases preceded by prepositions.
