Summary/Abstract: From the second half of the 18th to the beginning of the 19th century, although the education provided within the framework of a certain curriculum among the Kyrgyz was quite weak, oral culture and education based on this culture continued to live strongly. As is known, the traditional Kyrgyz society has adopted the nomadic lifestyle. The Kyrgyz Turks who lived in winter and plateaus were contented only with learning to read the Qur'an enough to fulfill their literacy and religious duties. It is known that there are few poets and man of letters among the Kyrgyz. Kyrgyz people did not reach the desired level of education despite the spread of schools and madrasahs after the Russian occupation in the 1840s. The most important reason for this is the education system put into practice by Soviet Russia. Within the framework of the education system and politics of the Soviet Union, in Russian-Tatar, Russian-Kazakh and Russian-Kyrgyz schools, children were forced into activities aimed at studying Russian and forgetting theirs culture. Although these assimilation policies in the field of education were partially stopped in the 19th century, the Kyrgyz continued to react to Russian schools for a certain period of time. Despite all of this, we can say that education in the modern sense in the Kyrgyz started in the Soviet era.
